📝 Description
Stapelia leendertziae, often called the Black Bells Stapelia, is a seriously striking succulent that stands out from the rest. Instead of the usual star-shaped flowers, it produces deep maroon to almost black bell-shaped blooms that look like velvet. They’re large and dramatic — and yes, they’ve got that same faint “carrion” scent that most Stapelias are known for, which helps attract flies for pollination. It’s weirdly fascinating and definitely a talking point for anyone who sees it.
As for care, it’s easy-going. Bright light (even some direct sun), very well-draining soil, and infrequent watering are the main things it needs. Overwatering is its biggest enemy, so less is more. If you give it the right conditions, Stapelia leendertziae will reward you with unique blooms and chunky, cactus-like stems that add a bold look to your plant collection.
