Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Stingray’ is a striking tropical plant that gets its name from its uniquely shaped leaves, which look like stingrays gliding through water. Each leaf has a wavy edge and a pointed tip that resembles a tail, making it an eye-catching addition to any indoor plant collection. Native to Southeast Asia, this plant loves warmth and humidity, so it thrives in a bright, cosy spot inside your home. It can grow quite tall—up to 1.5 meters indoors—so give it enough space to show off its dramatic foliage.
Caring for an Alocasia ‘Stingray’ is easier than you might think. It loves bright, indirect light and prefers to be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry. Just be careful not to overwater, as its roots don’t like to stay soggy. A well-draining soil mix and occasional feeding with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season will keep it happy. Since it’s a tropical plant, it appreciates a bit of extra humidity, so misting the leaves or placing it near a humidifier can help it thrive. It’s a bit of a showstopper, so expect it to turn heads wherever it’s placed!
