Opuntia ‘Jamaica Ghost’ is a rare and striking variety of prickly pear cactus, known for its pale, almost ghostly green pads. Its unique coloration sets it apart from typical Opuntia species, making it a standout in any succulent or cactus collection. Like most Opuntias, it thrives in bright sunlight and well-draining soil, requiring minimal watering. This drought-tolerant plant is perfect for low-maintenance care and does well both indoors in a sunny spot or outdoors in warm, dry climates.
Caring for Opuntia ‘Jamaica Ghost’ is easy—just give it plenty of light and water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Be mindful of its spines and glochids (tiny, hair-like barbs), which can be irritating if touched. If grown outdoors, it can tolerate high heat but should be protected from excessive moisture, especially in winter. Like other prickly pears, it may produce small flowers and even edible fruit under the right conditions. However, keep in mind that Opuntias are not pet-safe due to their spines and potential mild toxicity if ingested.
