Further information on your plant

All plants are measured from the bottom of the nursery pot to the tip of the plant and if a height is specified, this is an approximate height, not set in stone. As all plants are living things, they will vary in size throughout the year, and we do our best to give a guide as to the size you can expect. If in doubt drop us an email hello@leafculture.co.uk. And lastly, minor flaws in leaves might be present and will not be covered for compensation. It's worth noting that plants naturally age like people and are rarely perfect.

Dischidia nummularia, also known as the String of Nickels or Button Orchid. This captivating house plant from Southeast Asia will add a touch of natural beauty to your indoor space. Its succulent-like leaves are round and flat, resembling shiny coins or buttons, creating a cascading effect along trailing stems. The leaves come in shades of deep green to silver-green with delicate patterns, giving them a glossy, waxy texture.

Because it's from the succulent family it needs less water than you might expect. In fact if you were fortunate enough to be walking in a rainforest in SE Asia, you'd probably see this plant haginging down. As a result, it gets nearly all of its water from the moisture in the air (BIG clue how to care for it!)

Misting this plant is perfect and it will appreciate your efforts and repay you with growth. If you feel you need to, you can water the soil but allow it to slightly dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. One other factor to note is how much light this plant needs - quite a lot. If you see it losing any of its leaves, it's a clear sign it needs A LOT more light. Move it fast otherwise it will go downhill.

This plant looks amazing hung from the ceiling or draped over a bookcase and allowed to do it's own thing. If you find the plant being a bit leggy, simply give it a trim and this will encourage more bushier growth. It's also worth noting that it does prefer quite a lot of light and if you notice it starting to look unhappy, it's nearly always a lack of light.

Important notice: The String of Nickels come coiled in the packaging to safeguard them during transportation. When you unwrap them, we advise delicately untwisting the coils and carefully separating the vines around the pot. Rushing through this process may result in losing some of the nickels, so take your time. Allow the coils to hang for a few days before gradually parting the vines (patience is key). While some loss of foliage is inevitable, these plants are known for their rapid growth and will regenerate swiftly.
