Further information on your plant

All plants are measured from the bottom of the nursery pot to the tip of the plant and if a height is specified, this is an approximate height, not set in stone. As all plants are living things, they will vary in size throughout the year, and we do our best to give a guide as to the size you can expect. If in doubt drop us an email hello@leafculture.co.uk. And lastly, minor flaws in leaves might be present and will not be covered for compensation. It's worth noting that plants naturally age like people and are rarely perfect.

Delosperma echinatum, commonly known as the Pickle Plant or Prickly Ice Plant, is a quirky succulent native to South Africa. Its cylindrical, bright green leaves are covered in soft, white bristles (you can stroke them), giving them a spiky yet fuzzy appearance that resembles tiny pickles. The plant produces small, daisy-like yellow flowers during spring and summer, enhancing its ornamental appeal. Typically reaching about 15–20 cm in height, it has a compact and spreading growth habit, making it an excellent choice for pots, windowsills, or hanging baskets.

Caring for Delosperma echinatum is straightforward. It thrives in bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate some direct light if acclimated gradually. The plant requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus mix, and should be watered only when the soil has completely dried out to avoid root rot. While it prefers warm temperatures above 10°C and dry environments, it should be protected from frost.

Tip: This plant is also easy to propagate from cuttings, making it a fun addition for enthusiasts who enjoy sharing or expanding their collection.
