Rhaphidophora celatocaulis is a lesser-known but fascinating aroid, prized for its unusual growth habit and smooth, narrow leaves. In its juvenile form, it hugs tightly to surfaces like a shingling vine—each leaf overlapping the next as it climbs. As it matures (especially if given a vertical surface like a moss pole), the leaves can change shape and size, developing a more distinct, fenestrated form.
It prefers bright, indirect light and a warm, humid environment to really thrive. Let the soil dry slightly between waterings, and use a well-draining mix to avoid root rot. Rhaphidophora celatocaulis is relatively low-maintenance for such an exotic-looking plant. Like other aroids, it’s toxic to pets if ingested, so it’s best kept out of reach. Its unique growth pattern makes it a great choice for anyone looking to add something a little different to their collection.
