Oxalis triangularis ‘Mijke’ is a striking cultivar of the popular false shamrock, prized for its rich, deep purple foliage that can appear almost velvety in texture. Each leaf is made up of three triangular leaflets that fold up at night or in response to touch, a movement known as nyctinasty. This feature adds a dynamic quality to the plant, making it more interactive and engaging than many houseplants. In the right conditions, it produces delicate pale pink to lavender flowers on slender stems that contrast beautifully against the dark foliage.
Like other Oxalis triangularis varieties, ‘Mijke’ is grown from small tuber-like rhizomes and is relatively easy to care for. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers well-drained soil kept evenly moist, though it should not sit in water. The plant may naturally go dormant, especially in cooler seasons, but it reliably regrows when conditions improve. ‘Mijke’ is well-suited for indoor pots, shaded patios, or mixed displays, where its bold colour and movement bring a lively, ornamental touch.
