📝 Description

Albuca spiralis ‘Breeze’, commonly known as the Frizzle‑Sizzle (or Corkscrew Albuca), is a captivating bulbous succulent native to South Africa that delights gardeners with its curly, spiraled foliage and fragrant winter flowers. Typically growing to around 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) in height, the plant produces narrow, spiral leaves that flourish in bright light; with insufficient illumination, the leaves will often grow straight rather than curl tightly.  In late winter to early spring, a tall flower stalk emerges bearing 10–20 drooping yellow, bell‑shaped blooms with a gentle vanilla scent—an aromatic bonus to the eye‑catching spirals.

Care involves mimicking its native South African rocky habitat: a well‑draining sandy soil, bright indirect light (with morning or late‑afternoon direct sun ideal), and a moderate winter watering schedule similar to succulent routines (watering fall through spring), while drastically reducing moisture during its summer dormancy period to prevent bulb rot. After flowering, the foliage will naturally wither and the bulb enters dormancy—during this time, place it in a cool, dim spot and water sparingly once every few weeks or even monthly until new growth returns in autumn. Once active growth resumes, repotting (if needed) into fresh, gritty compost and resuming a gentle feeding schedule can encourage the next season’s flourish.
